Language and Currency

The official languages of Puerto Rico are Spanish and English. While Spanish is spoken more often, business is frequently conducted in English. It is estimated that, by the age of five, over 80% of the population knows at least conversational English.

The local currency is the U.S. dollar and mail is sent through the US Postal Service at the same rates as in the mainland.  Furthermore, there are no customs duties on articles bought in Puerto Rico and taken to the United States. In general, businesses accept all major credit cards. In any case, ATMs are plentiful and are  connected to major US and international networks.
